With this talk it's easy to project your own emotions and experiences onto Colin's story. He isn't explaining how he actually tried to murder his father. He's explaining how the 10-year-old version of him experienced the life he had growing up with his family. He's explaining how he needed to be invisible and didn't get much affection, which in the end, every child longs for.
Now that he has children of his own with a son about the same age, he's reflecting on his own relationship with his father. Maybe not any wiser, but more able to putting things in perspective and from that point, able to forgive his father. Maybe as an adult now seeing the context from which circumstances derived and as a child you cannot comprehend. I thought it was a nice talk and brave for sharing!"
